ISHPAHANI COLONY GUTTED IN RANGPUR CITY


More than 100 slum houses of the stranded Pakistanis (Beharis) at Ishpahani Camp No-3 in Robertsonsganj (Alamnagar) area in the city were gutted following
devastating fire tonight, police and eyewitnesses said.

Some miscreants set up fire at the slums at around 9:30 pm centering the issue of alleged non-payment of dues to a messier (worker) of a tea stall by its owner Harin Mian.
Earlier, the miscreants stormed into the tea stall and
started beating its owner Harin Mian when clashes, chases
counter-chases and pelting brick-bats between two groups of
people of the area erupted there creating tense situation.

As many as 22 people of both sides including Harin Main were
injured when the miscreants set fire on the slums at the
Ishpahani Camp No-3 being inhabited by the stranded non-Bengali
Beharis in the area.

Personnel of Fire Service and Civil Defense from its Rangpur
Station rushed to the spot and brought the devastating fire that
engulfed the whole colony under control fighting for about two
hours at around 11:25 pm.

"We have deployed additional police forces and the situation
is now under full control," Officer-in-Charge of Rangpur Kotwali
police station Altaf Hossain told BSS at 11:50 pm tonight.
