Tea Estate Ltd. produces organic
tea, making it the only substantial garden of its kind in Bangladesh. As we are
internationally certified organic, you can trust that our tea is made using
only natural and organic inputs.
Organic means:
1. Applying only natural pest & weed controls. 2. Using methods that do not harm human health. 3. Employing renewable resources. 4. Protecting wildlife. 5. Maintaining the fertility of the soil. |
Our philosophy is to produce tea
while supporting and sustaining the natural and social environment. Tea Estate
is a pioneer of tea plantation in Bangladesh and the Darjeeling Tea Belt. We
are the first substantial organic tea estate, and we use only natural resources
to control agricultural pests and weeds. We are also a composite garden, having
dairy, herbal plantation, pesticide materials, and other agricultural products
such as rice, wheat, corn, oilseed, fruits, vegetables and honey, all
organically grown.
In collaboration with the Bangladesh
Tea Board, extensive land surveys and soil testing were carried out in 1999.
Their studies have shown that organic farming techniques along with proper bush
architecture, quality planting materials, and high plant population would
result in healthy crops with a high harvest.
Virgin land was selected and
prepared at Rawshanpur, Tetulia, in the northernmost district of Bangladesh,
Panchagarh. Our first tea was planted on August 6, 2000. Our Tea is planted
using only organic inputs. Land which was once left fallow has been brought
back to life with the tea plants.
Our specially selected medicinal shade trees not only protect tea plants
from pests, but also can be used to produce herbal food supplements. By the end
of 2005, we will bring 500 hectares under tea plantation using proven
high-yielding varieties of clones. We grow our own clonal plants in the nursery
with high yielding varieties, such as TV-25, TV-26, TV-23, TV-29, BT-2 - 1.5.
We are currently growing about 2 million saplings per year in our nursery. Our
garden is certified organic by the SGS Organic Production Standard in accordance to
the EU Regulation 2092/91.
